Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants that attract bugs onto the rim of the pitcher where they slip inside are trapped. Big Thicket has a few areas with them. These are on the Sundew Trail in the Hickory Creek Unit.
Pitcher Plant
They were smaller than I thought and I did not realize that it was them the first time I went by. Once I found one bunch of them, I was able to find a few more. They are only in a short stretch along the trail, not far from the trailhead.

Several Pitchers Plants Growing Together
They are sometime growing around bushes and may look like a large piece of grass from a distance.
Pitcher Plants from the Trail
The Sundew trail is actually two loops, an inner one where the pitcher plants are and a longer outer one. The area is considered a wetland pine savannah ecosystem. I spent about an hour hiking the trails and looking at the pitcher plants.

I created a video of this hike and the one after. You can check it out here: Big Thicket National Preserve, Texas.
Also the previous post is about a hike in the Turkey Creek Unit.
