Ride Types

Bikepacking Group Shot

Casual

These rides are intended to be social rides where everyone can ride at their own pace, but where we usually stop at intervals on the trail to let everyone regroup. We’ll usually wait just a few minutes after the start time to make sure everyone shows up and has their bike and gear ready to go. If we’re waiting on one or two riders to get ready, others who are already ready may go ahead if they want, with the intention that they will ultimately wait for the rest of the group somewhere up the trail. The ride leader or other designees will wait at trail intersections to ensure that everyone goes the right way. These will be no-drop rides, meaning that someone will wait for the slowest rider, however, the event organizer or other designees may recommend that really slow riders turn back (i.e. so rider’s don’t get stuck out in the dark or way beyond when they thought they’d be able to get back).

Classic

This is the default classification, and the name ‘classic’ will not appear in the ride description (because it’s default). These rides are intended to be faster-paced rides where everyone can ride at their own pace, but where sub-groups of riders at different paces will break off. We’ll usually wait just a few minutes after the start time to make sure everyone shows up and has their bike and gear ready to go. If we’re waiting on one or two riders to get ready, others who are already ready may go ahead if they want. All or portions of the group may still stop at certain points along the trail, but riders are not obligated to do so. Riders will be expected to know the route well, as we will not expect to stop at the trail intersections. The ride leader or designees will not be obligated to wait for slower riders.

Hammer

These rides are intended to be very fast-paced rides, where rider’s challenge themselves to keep up with others. There will be no planned stops on the ride (just riding!). Riders will be expected to know the route well, as we will not stop at the trail intersections. The ride leader or designees will not be obligated to wait for slower riders. First one back to the cars gets dibs on après-ride beverage of choice. After getting their workout in, if riders want to take off right after their ride, they can.

Skills

These sessions are intended to be less rides, then instructional opportunities. They will usually be held at a bike park, or on particularly technical sections of trails. We will usually casually ride out to the skills area, and then ride in and around the skills area until people feel they’ve accomplished all they want to accomplish. When riders have gotten their fill, they can ride back and take off whenever they want.

Exploring

These rides are going on trails that are not commonly ridden and limited info will be available. The ride leader probably has not been on the trails. These could involve hike-a-bike sections, turning back due to overgrown trails, awesome views and getting high away from the crowds.
